Recreational sailing and boating are becoming increasingly popular in Spain this year, with boat sales far exceeding the levels seen in 2019, before the pandemic.
According to the figures, released by the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine, there was a 30% increase in pleasure boat registrations in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period in 2020, which also poses a 14.56% increase compared to 2019.
In March alone 523 pleasure boats were registered, 79.5% of which were destined for private use, while the remaining 28.65% were for rental use.
The sharp increase in demand in March was so high that it outstripped availability, meaning that there were no remaining stocks of certain lengths and types of boats.
For those embarking on a sailing hobby for the first time this year, it is important to understand the type of marine insurance required to ensure the sailing vessel and its occupants are fully covered.
Op de Beeck & Worth are specialists in sailing insurance, working with Europe’s leading marine insurance providers to arrange bespoke policies for virtually any marine vessel, at competitive prices.
